Short answer: Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years to treat all sorts of issues in the body. All herbs in the US are GNP certified, and go through a stringent selection and regulatory process before ever reaching our pharmacies.
If used as directed and in conjunction with any cautions or contraindications, herbs are not only a safe, but an effective method of treatment.
A few guidelines:
Herbs should always be taken at least an hour apart from meals and other medications, unless otherwise directed.
Herbs should be taken in the quantities and methods as directed. Some formulas should not be taken when a pathogen such as a cold or flu are present. Formulas can be for long or short term use, so always ask your practitioner if you have a question about whether or not you should continue taking a particular formula.
If you have an adverse reaction that you attribute to the herbs:
Stop taking them immediately, then contact our office for follow up.
